A note before you read
We compete with Hibu for some of the same customers, so read this with that in mind. Everything said about Hibu here comes from its own published terms as we read them in October 2026, with links below. Terms change and your signed order is what counts, so check the current versions and your own contract.
What Hibu's terms say
From Hibu's General Terms and service terms:
- Website design on a monthly plan has a 12-month term. Cancelling early can trigger a fee of $99 to $449 depending on the package.
- Some services carry minimum terms tied to ad campaigns, from 3 to 12 months depending on the package. After a minimum term, services continue month to month until cancelled.
- Domains bought through Hibu are registered to Hibu. You can ask for a transfer.
- Your content and data: Hibu says it isn't responsible for storing them after cancellation, so you need your own backup. Its terms also give Hibu a permanent licence to use content you provide for its own marketing.
- Cancelling is done by phone during business hours, and requests made during a minimum term take effect when that term ends.
- Refunds are generally not given on cancellation, with some exceptions, including a 7-day review period on telephone-sold orders and a 7-day design satisfaction guarantee.

What people say in reviews
Public reviews of Hibu on sites like the Better Business Bureau and ConsumerAffairs often come back to the same themes: difficulty cancelling, contract terms that customers say they didn't expect, and what happens to the website after leaving. Reviews are individual experiences, not proof of company policy. Read a range of recent ones, including Hibu's replies, before deciding.
If you're thinking of leaving Hibu
- Find your minimum term end date in your order, and the notice you need to give.
- Ask for your domain to be transferred to an account in your name before you cancel.
- Back up your content: page text, photos and any blog posts.
- Check your Google Business Profile owner. You should be the primary owner. If an agency is, request ownership.
- Plan redirects so a new site keeps the old page addresses working.
We help with all of this when you start a plan, including rebuilding the site on a domain and hosting account in your name.
