Before you delete anything
Most owners who search this are fixing a different problem: a duplicate listing, an agency that controls the profile, a suspension, or a move. Deleting can make those worse.
- Duplicate listing? Ask Google to remove or merge the duplicate. Don't delete the one with your reviews.
- Agency won't give it back? Request ownership instead. Deleting loses the reviews and history.
- Profile suspended? Don't delete it and don't make a new one. A new profile for the same business is a duplicate. See how reinstatement works.
- Moved? Update the address with proof of the new location. Your reviews stay.
Option 1: Remove your profile content and managers
This is Google's "remove business profile" option for owners. Only a primary owner can do it.
- Sign in to the Google account that owns the profile and open your Business Profile (search your business name on Google, or open it in Google Maps).
- Open the menu and go to Business Profile settings.
- Choose Remove Business Profile.
- Choose Remove profile content and managers, then confirm.
Google's own help says this doesn't guarantee the business disappears from Search and Maps. The listing can stay, without your photos, posts and manager access. Menu names change from time to time; check Google's Business Profile help if yours look different.
Option 2: Mark it permanently closed
If the business really closed, mark it permanently closed from the same Remove Business Profile menu or in the profile's info. The listing stays visible with a Permanently closed label, so customers know. Don't use this for a business that's still running; it hurts rankings and confuses customers.
Option 3: Ask Google Maps to remove the listing
For a listing that shouldn't exist (a fake, a duplicate, or a business that's gone), anyone can request removal, owner or not:
- Open Google Maps and sign in.
- Select the business.
- Choose Suggest an edit, then Place is closed or not here.
- Pick the reason that applies and submit.
If Google approves it, the business is removed from Search and Maps. For spam and fraud, Google's Business Redressal complaint form is the stronger route.
What happens to your reviews
Reviews are attached to the listing, not to your account. Removing yourself as manager doesn't delete them. If the listing itself is removed, the reviews go with it, and they don't transfer to a new profile.
