What contractors pay for local SEO
Agencies price local SEO very differently, and many don't publish prices at all. From what contractors describe in trade forums and reviews, it breaks down roughly like this:
| Monthly price | What it usually covers | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Under $300 | A few keywords, a couple of towns, a report | Little real work; traffic charts with no calls |
| $500 to $1,000 | Google profile management, new pages each month, reviews, a handful of cities | Ask exactly how many pages and which cities |
| $1,000 to $2,000 | More cities and pages, link building, multiple services or locations | Long contracts and sites you don't own |
| $2,000+ | Multi-location or multi-trade, larger content and link work | Paying for reporting more than results |
These are ranges we see quoted, not a survey. Prices also depend on how crowded your market is: ranking a roofer in Miami takes more than ranking one in a small town.

Setup fees, contracts and other costs
- Setup fees pay for month-one work: profile cleanup, city pages, tracking. Ask what's delivered and by when.
- Contract length matters more than the monthly price. A $500 plan with a 12-month lock-in costs $6,000 even if it stops working in month three.
- Exit fees and ownership. If leaving means losing your website or Google profile, the real price is much higher than the monthly fee.
- Ad spend markups. Some agencies bundle Google Ads and take a cut. Ask whether you pay Google directly.
- Per-lead charges turn an SEO plan into a lead platform. Flat pricing keeps the incentive on real calls.
Is it worth it?
Work it out from one job. For most trades, one or two jobs a month from Google covers a plan. A replacement HVAC system, a re-roof or a few recurring cleaning clients a year can pay for twelve months of Growth, setup included.
Give it three to six months before judging rankings, and judge it on calls and booked jobs from your own tracking, not on charts.
