Google Guaranteed is now Google Verified
If you searched for Google Guaranteed, the badge you're thinking of was retired. On October 20, 2025, Google replaced the Google Guaranteed, Google Screened and License Verified badges on Local Services Ads with a single Google Verified badge.
Two things changed for contractors:
- One badge for everyone who passes Google's checks (business license, insurance and background checks where required for your trade).
- The money-back guarantee is gone. Google Guaranteed used to promise homeowners a refund if they weren't happy with the work, up to a limit. Google Verified doesn't carry that guarantee.
Businesses that were already verified moved over automatically. If your website, truck wrap or ads still say "Google Guaranteed", update them so you're not promising a guarantee that no longer exists.
How Local Services Ads work
Local Services Ads (LSA) sit at the very top of Google for many home-service searches, above the regular ads and the map pack. Homeowners see your name, the Google Verified badge, your rating and a Call button.
- You pay per lead, not per click. A lead is usually a call or message that Google counts as valid for your service and area.
- Ranking depends on your distance to the searcher, your reviews, how quickly you respond, your hours and your budget.
- You can dispute leads that weren't real jobs, such as spam, wrong service or outside your area. Google reviews disputes and doesn't approve them all.
Owners regularly report the same LSA problems: being charged for existing customers who searched the company's own name, disputes denied for off-target leads, budgets climbing, and impressions dropping without a clear reason.
How SEO is different
Local SEO is the work that gets your Google Business Profile into the map pack and your website into the results below it. There's no per-lead charge. You pay for the work, the calls are yours, and the pages keep working when you stop paying for them.
The trade-off is time. SEO usually takes three to six months to move rankings, while LSA can ring the phone the week it's approved.
LSA vs SEO side by side
| Local Services Ads | Local SEO | |
|---|---|---|
| Where you show up | Top of the page, above the map pack | Map pack and organic results |
| How you pay | Per lead | Flat monthly fee for the work |
| How fast it starts | Days to weeks after verification | Three to six months for most ranking movement |
| When you stop paying | The ads stop that day | The profile, pages and reviews stay yours |
| Bad leads | Dispute them; Google decides | Not charged per lead, so there's nothing to dispute |
| Badge | Google Verified | None |
Which one should you run?
If you need calls this month, LSA is the faster lever. Set your service area tight, answer every lead fast, and dispute bad ones in the same week.
If you want calls that don't cost more as you grow, SEO is the long-term play. A city page that ranks keeps bringing calls with no per-lead charge.
Most established contractors run both. The map pack and LSA appear on the same search, and reviews help both. Use call tracking to compare cost per booked job, not cost per lead.
On our Growth and Dominate plans we audit your LSA charges each month and help dispute leads that weren't real jobs. The ad spend stays in your own Google account.
